Embargo: Access to this dataset is restricted until 2031. ## Data structure For long-term preservation, the research data produced within the project are archived via Open Data LMU. This public dataset comprises a JSON file containing georeferenced narrative sites and associated structured metadata. In addition, a ZIP archive containing the corresponding photographic documentation and the project bibliography are included. Parts of the dataset are not publicly accessible for reasons of research ethics. This restricted data is structural identically published as encrypted supplement to the present dataset: [https://doi.org/10.5282/ubm/data.799](https://doi.org/10.5282/ubm/data.799). Access to the restricted components can be granted upon reasonable request in accordance with the Data Use Agreement. Please contact: [jonjonsson@hi.is](mailto:jonjonsson@hi.is). The project data deposited in the Research Data Repository of the University Library of LMU Munich (Open Data LMU) comprise the following components as of 30 March 2026: * README.txt: (this file) * DataCite_metadata.xml: XML metadata file conforming to the DataCite schema (https://schema.datacite.org/meta/kernel-4.4/metadata.xsd) * archive_public.json: JSON export of the publicly accessible project data extracted from the WordPress database. The file contains 627 records documenting farms and associated places in Northern Strandir (Westfjords, Iceland). Each record includes structured metadata and narrative content. The data were exported from the production database, filtered for archival purposes, and transformed into a structured JSON format suitable for long-term preservation. The field “post_title” contains the unique catalogue number used to identify each farm or place and to link metadata records with image files. * img_public.zip.00*: Image archive corresponding to the records in archive_public.json. The archive contains approximately 3,500 image files (approx. 40 GB) documenting geographical landmarks referenced in the narratives. The linkage between image files and metadata records is established via the catalogue number stored in the “post_title” field. (Unpacking the files: Download all parts of the ZIP file (all files from img_public.zip.001 to img_public.zip.004). Make sure you have an unpacking program installed. On Windows, we recommend [7-Zip](https://www.7-zip.org/). Make sure all parts of the split ZIP files are downloaded and in the same location. Then use the unpacking program with the file img_public.zip.001 to extract the content.) * bibliography.bib: Consolidated bibliography in BibTeX format containing all bibliographic references cited within the records of both JSON exports (archive_public.json and archive_protected.json). The bibliography provides the full reference data for the sources referenced in the narrative entries. * webinterface.zip: Screenshot-based documentation of the WordPress web interface developed for the interactive exploration and management of the project data. The files were prepared and deposited by the [Center for Digital Humanities (IT-Gruppe Geisteswissenschaften), LMU Munich](https://www.itg.uni-muenchen.de/).
