Wikidata is a free knowledge database that provides data from its Wikimedia sister projects (Wikipedia, Wikivoyage, Wikisource) as a kind of central repository in structured form. The data on Wikidata is made available under a free licence (Creative Commons Public Domain Dedication 1.0) and can be created, used and browsed in up to 111 different individual languages and dialects. Unlike Wikipedia, Wikidata does not list complete articles, but only individual concepts, all of which have their own Q-ID. For example, the concept MOLKE has the Q-ID 185009 (cf. Wikidata). Although the sustainability of this catalogue is not strictly guaranteed, from a linguistic point of view, the basis of a very useful onomasiological reference system has de facto been created.
VerbaAlpina's concepts are assigned the corresponding Q-IDs from Wikidata. This is particularly relevant for VerbaAlpina with regard to the cooperation with the GeRDI project. Wikidata is used by GeRDI as a knowledge base to ensure cross-disciplinary searches in different languages. For example, entering a search term in Italian will yield results in other languages at the same time.
Concepts that are not yet recorded on Wikidata are newly created by VerbaAlpina. For this purpose, a project account for VerbaAlpina has been set up on Wikidata. English is the default language. However, translations of the respective concept can be entered in all languages available on Wikidata.Identifikationsnummer
