This Slavic base type is attested in Old Church Slavonic texts since the 16th century. In the VerbaAlpina data, it is mainly associated with morpho-lexical types denoting
ZIEGE, the 'herd of goats' or the 'goatherd'. The type goes back to ide.
*kag'ah2 (or
*kog'ah2). It is related to
got. hakuls 'coat' (since coats were made of goatskin),
dum. hoekjin 'little billy goat' (cf. SNOJ,
s.v. koza).
