Savre and G. Craig) submitted to the Journal of the Atmospheric Sciences in August 2022. The present README file describes briefly the files (naming convention, structure and content) gathered in the folder. The dataset has been produced using the MISU-MIT Cloud and Aerosol (MIMICA) model, a limited area, high-resolution cloud resolving model dedicated to atmospheric applications. The model was configured to run a case of Radiative Convective Equilibrium (RCE) in a 128x128 km2 periodic domain over an ocean surface at fixed temperature (300 K). 20 numerical experiments were designed based on this initial setup in which both the model's horizontal resolution and the fixed cooling rate were simultaneously varied. The data is thus collected in 20 different folders: - Parent directories RCE2, RCE4, RCE8, RCE12 gather data produced at cooling rates of -2 K/d, -4 K/d, -8 K/d and -12 K/d, respectively - Sub-directories 2km, 1km, 500m, 250m, 125m gather data generated at the corresponding cooling rates and horizontal resolutions of 2 km, 1 km, 500 m, 250 m and 125 m. Each sub-directory contains the following data files: - T_S_rcex_xxxx (y denotes the cooling rate, xxxx corresponds to the resolution considered) in which time series of various domain averaged or integrated variables are stored at a high temporal resolution - profiles_tot_rfcey_xxxx_.nc (y denotes the cooling rate, xxxx corresponds tot the time window of the data) contains horizontally averaged profiles available on fixed 120 vertical levels. Data available with a 10 min resolution - slice_z_0_rcey_xxxx.nc (y denotes the cooling rate, xxxx corresponds to the time window) contains instantaneous slices extracted at the surface. Each instantaneous slice contains, depending on resolution, either 64x64, 128x128, 256x256, 512x512 or 1024x1024 grid points. Data available with a 1 h time resolution. - slice_z_1200_rcey_xxxx.nc (y denotes the cooling rate, xxxx again corresponds to the time window) contains instantaneous slices extracted in the x-y plane at a fixed altitude of 1275 m. Each instantaneous slice contains, depending on resolution, either 64x64, 128x128, 256x256, 512x512 or 1024x1024 grid points. Data available with a 1 h time resolution. - The RCE2 sub-directories contain additional slices named slice_z_800_rce2_xxxx.nc extracted at an altitude of 825 m. The output frequency is still 1 h, but the number of time steps available is reduced. T_S files are formatted text files. All other files (profiles and slices) are NetCDF files generated with the NetCDF4 standard. Python scripts to read and analyze the data can be made available by the authors upon request.
